Portals

The Portals are ancient bridges linking WyrdeHaven and Earth, harmonized through ley resonance and the Eternal Flame’s pulse.

It is unknown *how* the first portal was established, but once it existed, more were created.

The Hearth Portal is said to have been the first - its origin lost to time, perhaps even to the dragons themselves.

It remains unclear whether all races existed on both worlds from the beginning, or if one seeded the other through the Portals, or if they evolved separately and later mingled.

If the latter, the widespread biological compatibility between species remains a mystery - though Dragons may owe theirs to blood-borne transformation magic, while Dwarves and the smaller Fae appear to be true exceptions.

Magical Function

Portals rely on resonant ley harmonics between two points - one on WyrdeHaven, one on Earth.

Each pair is stabilised by mana drawn from both sides; when Earth’s magic waned, most portals became dormant or were deliberately sealed to protect WyrdeHaven.

Through this residual resonance, the time of day on both worlds remains synchronised, even though their seasonal rhythms differ due to orbital disparities.

While most Portals are fixed, some - such as the Tara Gate - wander through time and space, seeking new anchor points where leylines knot or where humans possess innate mana potential.

The Lady’s Portal

Unlike other gates, the Lady of the Lake’s portal is woven purely of Water magic, linking Lake Annaheloy in Avalon with Dozmary Pool on Earth.

It does not obey the ley harmonics of the others but flows through reflection and intention - opening only at the Lady’s command.

It is said that those who cross through it return changed: touched by renewal, memory, and calm.

Magical Theory

Portals are believed to have been created through harmonic binding of the Eternal Flame’s reflection between worlds.

Scholars suggest that the first Portal established the resonance that forever synchronized the rotation (but not the seasons) of Earth and WyrdeHaven - a feat no mortal mage could replicate.

Later Portals were patterned upon this resonance, each attuned to a unique harmonic frequency.

The continuing abundance of mana and magical potential surrounding the Dragons and the Warlock are the sole reason the Hearth and Takama ga Hara Portals remain stable and active to this day.

Cultural and Historical Notes

• The oldest surviving Portal inscriptions use Draconic runes overlaid with pre-Fae sigils.
• Some ancient rites of passage in Dracænaia required initiates to meditate before a sealed Portal to test their magical attunement.
• The Tara Gate’s erratic movement has inspired dozens of mortal legends about fairy abductions and time slips, particularly in Ireland and Cornwall.
