Dragon

Dragons are the protectors of balance and nature in WyrdeHaven.

Most of them live in Dracænaia, around the Dragon’s Roost, but they are found all over WyrdeHaven.

Dragons are magic, and non-magically gifted people from other races often petition Dragons for their magical support. Dragons will often negotiate fair exchanges for their assistance, like food, labour or gold. Unlike what the legends on Earth say, the latter has little meaning for a Dragon, except as a means of doing good and supporting those in need.

Most dragons can transform to Dragonborn shape as well. Further transformation requires special skills, as well as voluntarily donated blood from someone of the desired species and same gender. Despite being able to do this for any humanoid race, it is extremely rare to find a non-human Dragon transformation.

Dragons are purely matriarchal. There is only one Dragon Matriarch at any given time, called the Great Mother or simply Mother by her favoured children and inner circle, often referred to as her clutch. The current Matriarch is Chara. Her eldest daughter and next Matriarch is Kiyo.

All Dragon magic flows from - or through, even the Dragons themselves are not sure of that - the Matriarch, and she can control this flow. She can therefore limit or even stop a Dragon's access to magic. This is considered an extreme punishment, and potentially lethal for the Dragon if cut off for too long. The only exception to this is her eldest daughter, who will become the next Matriarch.

When a Matriarch dies, her eldest daughter automatically becomes the new Matriarch, and she becomes the new fount of Dragon magic.

Dragonborn

When in a fully humanoid form (human, Orc, Fae, Tigrin, etc.) the female Dragon physical body is sufficiently compatible that they can conceive and bear children with males of the same race. Children born in this manner are Dragonborn. Depending on the amount of Dragon blood in their veins, they may be able to use Dragon magic, including fire magic and transformation magic. Dragonborn with sufficient Dragon magic can transform to Dragonborn form, but are unable to go full Dragon. There are no discernible differences between Dragonborn form of Dragons or Dragonborn.

Male Dragons in humanoid form cannot impregnate females of any race.

Dragon Dynasty

The Dracænaian Royal Family is a special group of Dragonborn. They are descendents of a single family that has ruled Dracænaia for many centuries, and derive their power by being direct descendant of the respective Matriarchs. The current Dragon King is Frank, the Dragonborn son of Chara and Uilliam, the previous king.
